What happens to my data when I run checkCIF/PLATON during the deposition process?

Solution

Your CIFs are sent to the IUCr’s checkCIF/PLATON service which returns checkCIF/PLATON reports for each structure you are depositing. Your CIF files are only sent to the IUCr for generation of the checkCIF/PLATON reports and are not stored at the IUCr. The deposition process then allows you to add validation responses to any significant checkCIF/PLATON alerts and these are automatically embedded into your CIFs. At the end of the submission process these files will be sent to the CCDC and you are also able to retrieve all the modified CIFs and checkCIF/PLATON reports.
